In New Jersey politics and state government on Thursday, September 8th, 2011 ...

  • Gov. Chris Christie hosts the New Jersey Conference of Mayors' fall summit at Drumthwacket, the state-owned governor's mansion in Princeton. He then takes part in a live podcast, part of the 'Conversations on New Jersey Education' series organized by the New Jersey School Boards Association.
  • Associate Justice Anne Patterson is ceremonially sworn in as a member of the state Supreme Court in a ceremony at the Trenton War Memorial. She began the job last week, more than 15 months after she was first nominated. In addition to Patterson, speakers include Christie, Chief Justice Stuart Rabner and Senate Minority Leader Thomas Kean Jr.
  • Senate Health, Human Services & Senior Citizens Committee meets in the Statehouse Annex. Four bills are on the agenda, including one regarding youth suicide prevention.
  • Senate Military & Veterans' Affairs Committee meets at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. Maj. Gen. Glenn Rieth has been invited to update the committee on Hurricane Irene and National Guard activities.
  • The Remembering 9/11 exhibit opens to the public at the State Museum in Trenton, running through Sept. 30th, 2012.
  • In Egg Harbor Township, Motor Vehicle Commission chairman and chief administrator Raymond Martinez leads a media tour of the MVC’s Mobile School Bus Safety Inspection Unit process. He's joined by Assms. John Amodeo and Vincent Polistina, Mayor Sonny McCullough and a 2nd-grade class from Swift Elementary School.

  • Victims of Crime Compensation Review Board meets in Newark.
  • The Republican candidates for Legislature in the 18th District, Senate candidate Gloria Dittman and Assembly candidates Joseph Sinagra and Marcia Silva, hold a news conference in Helmetta to oppose increasing gasoline taxes.
